The South-South geo-political zone of Nigeria is in the Niger Delta region and extends from Edo State in the West through Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom, to Cross River in the East. The two largest cities are Benin City, in Edo, and Port Harcourt, in Rivers State on the Bonny River. Risk factors include communal tensions in Delta and Cross River, and cult violence, especially in Rivers State. The Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) has also raised concern about election violence and human trafficking, particularly the trafficking of children and babies. According to early warning data, some of which can also be found in the 2019 PDF below that outlines past conflict trends, the rate of human and child trafficking is elevated, as is the prevalence of kidnappings for ransom.
